Support for the evaluation of the environmental impact of the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

EMAS is a certified environmental management tool for organisations to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance. The focus of the evaluation is to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the EMAS scheme in reducing organisation’s negative environmental impact in the past 5 years and provide a set of recommendations for improving the environmental performance implementation of the scheme. 

Purpose of the project

To serve as a basis for the mandatory article 47 reporting to the Council and Parliament. The recommendations for improving the environmental performance and implementation of the scheme should aid the implementation of the current Regulation and for positioning EMAS in the future Commission mandate starting in 2024.   

What we are delivering: 

• Supporting our lead partner with data collection, analysis and development of policy recommendations. 

• A review of key technical literature of the EMAS scheme since 2017. 

• A backward-looking evaluation of EMAS implementation.  

• A set of at least three operational recommendations and three policy recommendations. 

• Leading on stakeholder engagement and interview to inform ex-post analysis.
